Twelve years on the same corner in Bakara

We started with one glass counter of phone accessories. The stock grew, the prices stayed honest.

Waa kuma Barwaaqo Store?

Barwaaqo opened in 2013 as a single glass counter in Suuqa Bakaara selling chargers, cases and airtime. Customers kept asking what else we could bring in, so we started travelling to Dubai ourselves — first phones, then televisions, then the kitchen appliances every Mogadishu household replaces after a power surge. Today we run two counters, one in Bakara and one at KM4, and a delivery desk that answers WhatsApp from seven in the morning until nine at night. Nothing goes on the shelf that we would not put in our own home, and nothing carries two prices: what the site says is what the counter charges, whether you walk in from Hodan or call from Hargeisa. Everything electrical leaves here with a written one-year warranty, and if it fails you come back to the same counter and the same people.

Regulars from across the city, in their own words.

"I ordered the 32-inch TV on WhatsApp at eleven and two men had it on my wall before Asr. The price was exactly what the site said."

"My son's phone screen went after four months. They replaced it under the warranty without an argument. That is why I keep going back."

"Cheapest earbuds in the city that actually last. I have sent half my office to that counter."

KM4, Mogadishu

"I buy cases and chargers from them in twenties for my own stall. They give a proper wholesale price and never short the count."
